New ab workout

I know it has been a while since my last post but I have been busy/sleeping/coughing my head off. I will just try to do a quick overview of my whirlwind weekend.

Friday morning I got up early to head down to the coast for a visit with Chris, we met for lunch at Newk’s and I tried something new: Tomato basil soup, so delicious!

After lunch I drove to the condo and rested for a bit. Chris was meeting his running group to run the bridge that afternoon and I was trying to decide if I felt well enough to run too. I really didn’t feel like driving the 10 miles down the road to meet them so I decided to run 6 miles and meet Chris at work to ride with him to the bridge. Makes a lot of sense right? Anyway, when it was all said and done I ran/walked 9.3 miles.

After a grocery trip to Walmart and a long hot bath, we watched the new Men in Black movie and then headed to bed.

Neither of us felt up to running a race the next morning so instead we did some marathon shopping or rather nonshopping. We were out for about 5 hours going to different stores and spent a total of $75. That included lunch at Chick-fil-a, I decided to try something different and got the chicken salad sandwich. I like the chicken salad, but didn’t enjoy the bread, it had a sweet taste to it that I don’t typically enjoy in my sandwiches.

I spent the rest of the day/night watching the SEC Championship, my Dawgs gave it a good shot and had me biting my nails down to the very last second.

Needless to say after our long day of shopping, the emotional roller coaster of a game, and coughing my head off nonstop all day, I had no energy left for a run. And that is where my streak ended 😦

I spent most of the day Sunday coughing uncontrollably and napping on the couch. I guess this sickness finally caught up to me and I was exhausted. I got just enough rest to give me some short lived energy for dinner with Chris and his co-workers at Leo’s Wood Fired Pizza. Chris and I ate here before about a year ago and finally made it back to eat again. I decided to stick with what I had last time and got the Marlyn Monroe. It has chicken, tomatoes, bacon, and ranch, so so good! I only ate half at the restaurant so I didn’t look like a piggy, but I swear I could have polished off the whole thing.

I woke up this morning still kind of tired, so I have been sitting around all day trying to rest. I did find the one positive to coughing myself into fits of panic for the last two days….sore abs. Yes, apparently all you have to do to get in a great ab workout is to get sick and cough for 2 days straight.

Gym time fun

I took my healing/rest day very seriously yesterday and stayed in bed all day. I did get up to feed my body (makes for faster healing), get some ice for my injuries, and to foam roll like no tomorrow.

This morning I woke up feeling some motivation to get sweaty , so I headed to the gym to get my cardio on. When I walked in the gym, I had a wonderful surprise waiting for me:

Yes, we finally got a stair climber! But first I needed to start easy, so I went with my go to stationary bike. I spent 35 minutes at a very easy pace, just feeling out my body and making sure I wasn’t doing any more damage. My hip was feeling tight at first but it seemed to loosen up about halfway through. After I finished, I hopped on the new stair climber, cranked up my Pandora 90s station and got to work. I felt some twinges in both of my Iliotibial bands so I made sure not to go too hard. Here was my attempt at sneaking a picture of me on my new favorite machine.

please excuse the blurriness, I was getting my stair climb on

I did some easy strength training then got on the treadmill to walk. I captured proof that I was taking it very easy. I walked for 28 minutes and then tried out some light jogging (4.5-5.0mph) for the last 2 minutes. It felt so good, I wanted to keep going but I controlled myself and stopped.

After I got home, I took off my shoes and this is what my socks looked like:

This was the first time I had worn those shoes since the Spartan Race spectator incident. I wonder how long it will take to get all of that dirt out of my shoes. After stretching, I made my favorite breakfast of banana walnut oatmeal, and yes I ate it out of a mixing bowl because all my other bowls were dirty.

Now here’s some Monday happy thoughts:

1. I have been thinking about chopping my hair off because it has been annoying me, but I decided to straighten it last week and fell back in love with my long hair.

2. I gave Daisy her favorite catnip toy and she got so happy:

And then promptly crashes:

Come run with us on Friday!

After my stellar 15 mile run on Sunday, Chris came out to meet me and walk the last mile back to the condo. I was really hurting at this point and just wanted to get back and stretch, take an ice bath, and foam roll. Once we got back, I started stretching and suddenly I felt so much better! I think I must have stretched for at least 20 minutes because it felt so good. Then I braved the freezing cold water of my ice bath for about 2.7 minutes and quickly hopped in the warm shower because I was way too cold.

After my shower, I plopped down on the couch and didn’t move for about 3 hours while I caught up on my blogging, facebook, twitter, and email. I finally decided around 11:30 that it was time to eat breakfast (I just didn’t have an appetite after my run was done, there must be something wrong with me!!). After my Kashi Island Vanilla goodness there was more laying around, playing on the computer, and searching for races to participate in.

The early afternoon brought in a thunderstorm, so Chris and I went out on the balcony to check it out. This is my OMG!, I could have been out running in this face:

And here’s a couple of the storm rolling in:

The rest of Sunday was spent pretty much the same with a little football and candy thrown in.

As I was walking around that night I mentioned to Chris that I wasn’t as sore as  I thought I would be after running 15 miles, he said he noticed and he was amazed how I was acting like I didn’t run at all that morning. I guess my body is getting used to these longer distances.

Monday morning I woke up at 5:45 and couldn’t go back to sleep, so I just laid there for awhile and then finally got up and saw Chris off to work. Then I got dressed and went down to the gym to loosen up my legs from the run on Sunday. I did 30 minutes on the stationary bike, sweated like crazy, then came back to the room and did some lunges, squats, pushups and planks.

One quick breakfast and a shower later, I headed out the door to take our 5k registrations to the Run-N-Tri store. On Friday night we will be running in the Thumbs up for Bill Memorial 5k. (Click the link for more details) There are no awards, just a timed run, a t-shirt, and our money going to a great cause. If you are in the Gulfport area, you should join us for a little running at 6:30 on Friday. Come on out so we can run together!!
